Troops kill 21 B’Haram insurgents, rescue 1,623 captives in Borno

The troops of the Nigerian Army, Operation Lafiya Dole, on Monday shot dead 21 Boko Haram insurgents in Jarawa area in the Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.

It was learnt that the troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade, assisted by the civilian Joint Task Force acted on intelligence and launched an offensive on a suspected location of the Boko Haram terrorists at the Jarawa general area, during which 1,623 captives were freed.

Our correspondent learnt that the rescued persons were taken to an Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Kala-Balge, while all the children were also vaccinated.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.Gen. Sani Usman, said the troops recovered three AK-47 rifles among other weapons.

He said, “The troops cleared Deima, Artano, Saduguma, Duve, Bardo, Kala, Bok, Msherde and Ahirde settlements. During the operation, the troops neutralised 21 Boko Haram terrorists, and rescued 1,623 residents of Jarawa who were held captives by the terrorists.

“They also recovered three AK-47 rifles with registration numbers 565222414, 563729686 and UF 3646, a 36m hand Grenade, 12 cutlasses and four motorcycles.

“One significant aspect of this operation is that the troops did not record any casualty.”
